2004: Do you pride yourself
on good weed management practices? Do you have ideas
for weed management strategies or techniques you'd like to
test out? The Rodale Institute is looking for farmers--in
Pennsylvania only, please--interested in collaborating with
us through on-farm research as part of a broad-based weed
research initiative involving Penn State and the Agricultural
Research Service of the USDA. Researchers here at The Institute
are particularly interested in hearing from farmers with innovative
or alternative weed management practices involving:
- cover crops
- equipment modifications
- timing and type of tillage, planting, and cultivation
steps
- cropping sequences and rotations
Participants would collaborate with Institute researcher
Dave Wilson to design and set up replicated on-farm trials
measuring comparative weed management effectiveness between
two or more treatments. Researchers would make several visits
to the farm throughout the season to set up plots and collect
data. Cover crop seed would be provided. Planning stages would
start immediately, with field work to begin in the spring
of 2005.
To sign up or to learn more,

Pennsylvania farmers only, please.
