Regarding your recent story New
to Livestock, former tobacco farmers ponder omnivorous option.
I just want to say that most small farmers in east Tennessee
need more alternatives to transition from tobacco to something
we can make a living on, due to our limited acreage.

DEAR MARVIN:
Thank you for your comments. Both Tennessee State University
and Kentucky State University host free monthly training programs
that help small farmers come up with a range of viable alternatives
to tobacco. KSU’s program is called “That Thursday
Thing.” Tennessee State’s program, modeled after
Kentucky’s is called “Third Tuesdays.” Both
are made possible through SARE grant. Find out more here:
