Farm Description:
We farm about 20 acres, 17of which we lease from the Sonoma County Agricultural and Open Space District (County run). We are highly diverse and grow many varieties of vegetables and within that we grow multiple varieties of some of the crops, ie many types of lettuce, chicory, corn and chiles.
Practices:
Our primary philosophy of farming is to create a habitat inducive to healthy environmental conditions. We have hedgerows, insect attractant crops, beneficial habitat and a wetlands habitat in the middle of the farm. One example of our dedication for insect control is the fact that we let some of our carrots and other crops go to seed in order to attract predatory insects such as wasps and lacewings.
For soil improvement we use green manure crops/cover cropping and mulching with recycled local organic waste products from local landscapers and gardeners.
