Farm Description:
When you here, you're incognito. Cognito Farm is a mixed use 200 acres that includes naturally-seeded timber, oak hamocks, pastures, hay fields, a 3/4 acre pond, streams, a vegetable plot and blue berry patch and small fruit grove. Goats, chickens and cows live their whole lives on the farm -- interacting to minimize the number of inputs. It's a peaceful, ever-evolving farm.
Practices:
Chickens follow cows to flick fertilizer and eat fly larve. Broilers are grass fed and moved each day so that their nitrogen rich dropping go back to enhance the pasture. Cows mingle with goats - they don't share diseases, but they do share pasture. The goats preferring the taller, woodier browse and the cows preferring the grasses. Vegetables are rotated and only heirloom seeds are used. Hay is our mulch and cover crops are used to enrich the soil.
