10, 2005: Buying local is better for the environment
than buying organic a new report published in the journal
of Food Policy claims. While the authors say organic
farming is also valuable, they show that consumers can
help the environment even more by limiting their purchases
to producers within a 12-mile radius of their homes.
According to the report the environmental cost of transporting
the food out weighs damage done by production methods.
Of course, organic food produced locally is better still.
