BANGALORE, India,
April 20, 2005 (AP): Monsanto officials met April
13 with India’s Genetic Engineering Approval Committee
over licensing agreements for three existing transgenic
seeds and eleven new varieties. According to a Monsanto
official speaking on the condition of anonymity, the Indian
government deferred on the decision leaving the future
sales of the existing products and nine of the eleven
new seeds up in the air. The Indian government has been
under pressure to renounce the seeds from environmental
groups and farmers who lost money planting Monsanto’s
GM-cotton.
