Climate agreement promises farmers perks beyond clean air
April 15, 2005:
Canada will be looking to farmers for help meeting the
2012 Kyoto climate change standards and they are willing
to pay, according to reports of a House environment committee
meeting held yesterday. Environment Minister Stéphane
Dion was cited as saying that as much as $1-billion could
be bench-marked over the next sever years for conservation
rewards. Among the practices bantered about for subsidies
were no-till farming, energy efficient tractors and sustainable
energy sources.
