The antibiotic Baytril, or enrofloxacin, will no longer
be allowed to be fed to poultry, the Food and Drug Administration
announced yesterday. The FDA is pulling the drug due
to fears of antibiotic resistance in humans. The drug
combats campylobacter bacteria a common problem in poultry
but increasingly also a concern among humans. This is
the first drug the FDA has pulled over concerns of antibiotic
resistance.
