Basic application fee $650 for Initial Applicants. $400 for Annual Update Basic application fee includes review of up to 20 non-NOFA certified ingredients and one type of processing operation (e.g. milling, canning, and repackaging). Additional charges will be calculated based on complexity of processing operation and number of additional ingredients requiring document review. 2. Inspection and audit trail review costs vary; a minimum payment of $550 for the inspection fee is due at time of application. Additional costs are billed as they are incurred. First year applicants should plan on two inspections. Applicants requiring an additional inspection will be billed for the cost of the inspection, usually around $550.00. 3. Assessment fees at the rate of 0.5% (one half of one percent) of gross sales of certified organic product for sales up to one million plus an assessment at the rate of 0.1% (one tenth of one percent) for sales over one million. For new operations, the projected income from the first year of operation should be estimated and may be readjusted retroactively. Handlers who do not process (take title but only repack, re-label, or store products) may be eligible for a reduced assessment fee. Processors paying assessments on sales over $750,000 will receive credit for one inspection per year. All applicants are eligible for a free business membership to NOFA-NJ if they so elect; membership is not required. Certification notification may be delayed pending receipt of assessment fees. *Assessment fees can be paid at time of application if that is more convenient.
